– Must be 18+
-Must reside in Ontario
-Must be unemployed, or working less than 20 hours/week
-Must have a temporary work permit or be granted Permanent Resident Status 
-Not in school full time and not returning to school in the fall

Careers on the Water introductory training will be set to sail in Spring 2023 with 62 available seats throughout Niagara Falls, Toronto, Kingston, Gananoque, Rockport, Brockville and Ottawa. 

Careers on the Water Mate, Limited (Phase 2),  preparatory program with St. Lawrence College is open to all applicants with ongoing rolling admission.

Careers on the Water is offered in two phases.

Phase 1 gives you the knowledge and training to successfully begin a career on the water while phase 2 is focused on previously marine skilled workers moving up in ranks. 

Requirements to become a Captain includes a specific amount of sea time, experience on the job and for some vessels, a University degree.

Careers on the water will put you on the right path to becoming a Captain but you will need to put in the time and effort to do so.

There are many different options for starting careers such as Deck-Hand, Marine Crew, Dock Associate, Engine Room Watch, or First-Mate.

Once you have started your career on the water, you are eligible for admission to our Mate, Limited upskilling courses.
